Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
Admission & Requirements

The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy offers graduate programs leading to a Ph.D. degree in Medicinal Chemistry (including Pharmaceutical/Computational Chemistry), Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Social & Administrative Science. A Master's degree may be earned in the course of completing the Ph.D., but the College does not offer a program culminating in a Master's Degree itself.

Graduate students in our Ph.D. programs are enrolled in the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies. All students seeking admission should review the Rackham "Overview of the Application and Admissions Process" website at http://www.rackham.umich.edu/Admins/ . This website contains application materials and instructions, describes graduate study, profiles campus and community life, and explains special programs and services at the University of Michigan.

All applicatants must hold a U.S. bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Applicants are required to take the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) which helps the college make decisions about admission and financial aid. The following documents must be submitted with the application:

  • Three letters of recommendation and respective Recommendation Forms
  • Application fee

International applicants must also submit:

  • Certificates of degrees with dates awarded
  • Official TOEFL, IELTS, or MELAB scores
  • Affadavit of Fianncial Resources and Immigration Information for International Students, with supporting documentation.
This form is necessary, regardless of funding.

Application Fee

The application fee is $60 for U.S. Citizens and permanent residents, $75 for international applicants. This fee is waived for domestic/permanent resident applicants to the Medicinal Chemistry program only. Rackham will not process any application without the application fee, nor can the College review any applications prior to the payment of this fee.
