PharmD Admission:

More than GPA and PCAT Scores

Good grades and an acceptable Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) score are important criteria for admission to the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy’s PharmD program.

But GPA and PCAT scores are only a few of the criteria we consider when evaluating your admission application.

We also weigh other factors, such as:

  • Life and work experiences;
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills;
  • Previous health care patient experience (e.g., work or volunteer experience in a community pharmacy, hospital, nursing home, or hospice);
  • Leadership ability;
  • The academic strength of institutions you’ve attended;
  • Your desire to make a difference in the lives of others;
  • Your work ethic;
  • Your admission essay and letters of recommendation;
  • Whether you maintained a grade of B (3.0) or better while carrying a full (14-16 credit hour) undergraduate course load;
  • How you’ve responded to academic setbacks;
  • And many other factors as well.

That is why we encourage you to follow through on your interest in attending the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Do not prejudge your qualifications.

Apply. Set the admission process in motion. If a career in pharmacy is your goal, a PharmD from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy will put your career on the fast track — no matter what career path you choose.

If you are uncertain about your next step, or would like more information about Michigan’s PharmD program, we encourage you to call or e-mail our Assistant Dean for Student Services at (734) 764-5550 or vlperry@umich.edu. Or visit the College’s informative Web site at: www.umich.edu/~pharmacy.
